Video game like photography, a forgotten language and a nod to the passing of the legendary Dick Dale. This month's picks follow the theme of 'place'. If you like what you read please forward and share.
Tokyo Dream Distance
To kick things off, this stunning series of photographs of the neon-lit Tokyo streets by Davide Sasso. Inspired by Blade Runner, Akira and video games like Final Fantasy these vibrant images give a real feeling of the city by night.
Creative curated city guides
On The Grid is our first port of call before we visit any new city and it should be yours too. It's broken up into handy neighbourhood blocks and curated by hundreds of designers, artists and creative companies around the world who have shared their favourite local hangouts.
Sign language
Hobos were the nomadic workers who travelled the U.S by freight train. Their lives were dangerous and uncertain so to help, they collectively developed signs and symbols that would warn or provide directions to others who passed through. The 'kind lady' sign is a firm favourite.
City seats
These hard-wearing distinctive patterns are often overlooked. But with the help of the London Transport Museum, The Guardian has a great article celebrating this utilitarian upholstery and the designers who made them.
The King of the Surf Guitar
Sadly, the guitar legend Dick Dale died on March 16th. As a reminder of his brilliance, check out this great video of him and the Del Tones performing Misirlou, a song originally from the Eastern Mediterranean region. The best bit (apart from that riff) is the woman twisting at the front with effortless cool!
