Beautiful bees and four other finds

Five Finds is a monthly collection of five inspiring things we deemed worthy of sharing. If you’d like inspiration in your inbox each month sign up here.

With the days getting shorter and Wimbledon almost over, the collection this month is a celebration of summer. As always I hope you enjoy reading.

Beautiful bees

Bees are amazing insects and up close they're even more impressive. The US Geological Survey keeps a Bee Inventory and Monitoring Lab, to catalog and identify thousands of bee and wasp species. They've got a Flickr account with hundreds of stunning images.

Wetter is better

For kids, summer means water fights and the king of the water pistol has to be the Super Soaker. But a little known fact is that it was invented by a NASA engineer. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the revolutionary water gun.

In Real Life

I still vividly remember seeing Olafur Eliasson's glowing sun, The weather project, at the Turbine Hall (along with two million others) in 2003. Well he's back at Tate Modern and it's tipped to be the exhibition of the summer. Rooms full of rainbows, fog and mirrors apparently have to be seen to be believed.

A rose by any other name

Photographer Luke Stephenson's latest project celebrates the beauty of the English rose. Working with David Austin Roses he documented 65 varieties against a bright blue background highlighting the diversity and beauty of the blooms. You can buy the book here.
